Robotics technology is fantastic stuff and I am very excited to see how it is leaping forward. Programs like the US military’s Big Dog robot are exciting and all joking aside I don’t have concerns about SkyNet taking over.
But I do love stories on that subject. From Terminator to War Games, and even Deal of the Century, I love a good story about robots and AIs breaking free. Some day we might even see a good adaptation of Roger Zelazny’s Home is the Hangman.
That’s why despite how much I love the topic of armed robots providing infantry support, it gives me pause when I read the words, “SWORDS, a previous generation of weaponized robots, had its combat duties curtailed when it made movements without being given a command.”
That’s a pretty nebulous word. ED-209 made “movements” too.
